Summer on the Coast: Channeling Inspiration from the Quiet Spaces
July has arrived, and with it, the Big Sur coast has completely awakened. The highway is buzzing, the sun is cutting through the morning marine layer, and the rugged cliffs are alive with high-summer energy.
When the outside world gets this loud and busy, it usually calls for a fast pace. But for the last several months, my world has looked a little quieter.
If you’ve noticed a silence from me, it’s because I’ve been navigating a personal season of stepping back to rest and tend to my health. In a culture that demands constant production and endless hustle, choosing to pause isn't always easy—but it was necessary.
Yet, even in the quietest seasons, creativity doesn't stop knocking.
Lately, I am feeling a powerful surge of inspiration and motivation. I am ready to pour my energy back into Sculptress Jewelry. The fire to design is very much alive, and I am so excited to be re-engaging with this business and with all of you.
High Summer Inspiration & The Big Sur Wild
While I am gently preparing my studio space to get back to the physical work of carving wax models in the near future, my mind has been busy sketching, dreaming, and planning.
I’ve been drawing immense strength from the landscape just outside my window. Summer in Big Sur reminds me that nature is incredibly resilient. The same cliffs that weather the harsh winter storms are now bathed in golden July light.
That contrast is exactly what I want to bring into the next chapter of Sculptress Jewelry. I want to create pieces that feel like armor for the hard days and a celebration for the beautiful ones.
Honoring the Spirit of Big Sur Jade
As I map out the designs that are brewing for our next collections, my focus remains anchored in the stones that define this brand.
Big Sur Jade carries a profound medicine—it is a stone tumbled by the Pacific for thousands of years, carrying the raw weight of the California wild. Even while my hands have been resting from the wax bench, looking at these rare coastal treasures fuels my creativity.
Every piece of Sculptress jewelry is designed to respect that natural, ancient spirit. (If you want a refresher on the deep history and rarity of these coastal stones, you can dive back into our previous post, The Art of Jade Jewelry: Crafting Big Sur Treasures
Stepping Forward
I am stepping back into my business with a full heart, fresh ideas, and a deep devotion to this slow-fashion sanctuary. Soon, the studio fire will be lit, and I'll be back to melting wax and bringing these new visions into physical form.
Thank you for being here, for your quiet patience over the last few months, and for supporting an independent artist. I am so glad to be back in conversation with you.
With devotion and coastal alchemy,
Natilie Michaels
